Joe O’Rourke spoke about the 5K he is planning with the Fundraising committee. It will take place on 12/7 and will be the first annual Rotary Jingle Run. After the 5K will be Josie’s old fashioned Christmas event. Joe mentioned that Al does race management. There are certified courses that are out there you can take. We are hoping to get the course at the Rowan College of South Jersey Cumberland Campus, as it is certified.
Joe thanked everyone for volunteering and introduced Albert Siuta.
Al a chemical engineer. He is also a consultant with Racing NJ. He noted that putting on a 5K race is something people do for many reasons.
Al’s mom passed away when he was 11. It was then, he had to get to know his dad who was a runner. He got him into running daily. He started timing races with one race for a little girl with cancer. They were supposed to have 100 runners, the day of the race 700 additional runners showed up. One man registering donated $5,000 to the charity to help the little girl and her family.
Al shared some success stories of past 5Ks success. Sponsorship packages are a key to success in raising money at these races. He helps you with various marketing strategies, supports you through your events to ensure have the best outcomes and he also brings nuances and creativity as a consultant.
He has a journalist for press releases who writes articles and gets in to local papers to get the races communicated out to others. She knows a lot about running and was in the Olympic trials.
President Jay wanted to have a short discussion about this year's committee’s and chairs. Attached is the spreadsheet. Please look it over and reach out to volunteer where you can!!! Click here to view committee assignments:
