Highlights from our July 15th meeting:

Announcements:

Josie Spinelli mentioned how nice it was to see some faces at the meeting that we have not seen in a while. Welcome back and we are all happy you were there!

Karen Bauman mentioned there will be a Pickleball fellowship on 8/13 at the Cumberland Christian School at 7:00PM. Andy is coordinating a group of instructors. Sign-ups will start next week. This is a great opportunity to learn the sport if you have never played. Light refreshments will be served. Thank you to Becky for coordinating this event with the school.

Diane Alcantara announced that Amurtel will be collecting donations for victims of the devastating floods. They are suggesting VISA cards. Please visit Amurtel.org to donate.

Donna Bennett made the following announcement:

This week, we learned that one of the students we sponsor in Tanzania is experiencing medical issues. Julieth (Juliet) was recently diagnosed with a neurological condition that is causing a loss of vision. Due to this, she was pulled from class and unable to complete the school year.

Fortunately, our sponsorship funds were able to be redirected from tuition reimbursement to assist with the medical expenses associated with her diagnosis, including a CT scan, hospital charges, and her first treatment. Doctors are hopeful that with continued treatments, her vision will be fully restored without permanent damage to her eyes.

Additional treatments over the next several months need to begin immediately and are expected to cost approximately 2,800,000 TZS (about $1,200 USD). If her recovery continues and she regains her vision within two to three months, she will be able to return to school and take her exams next May.

If you would like to help fund Juliet’s medical treatment, donations can be made to the Vineland Rotary Charities Foundation, and you will receive a donation letter for your records. Our club will then wire the total amount to our Rotarian contact, Timothy Massawe, in Tanzania.
