President Harry Maloney called the meeting to order at 5:45 pm. Club members gave Harry a warm welcome for his first meeting as our new President!
Dave Schad led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Donna Bennett led us in the Four Way Test. Dave Hanrahan provided the blessing. Andy Browne served as Sergeant at Arms. 11 members were in attendance and 2 guests.

President Harry reminded members that – as always- volunteers are needed for Spirit and Truth lunch project. Next date is Friday, September 2 @ 9 am at the soup kitchen located in the basement of the First United Methodist Church, 700 E. Landis Avenue, Vineland.
Ed Morvay announced there will be a Bench dedication at the Vineland Veterans Memorial Home on Saturday, Sept. 3rd at 11am. Bench provided by Lutheran Redeemer Church.
Dave Hanrahan announced plans are coming together for Bike Collection Day on Oct 22th at DNS Solutions facility, S. Main Road.
Program:
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. RYLA is for rising Seniors in High School and serves to improve the leadership skills of High School students as they ascend to leadership positions in their senior year of high school. RYLA was an abbreviated one night, 48-hour program this year held at Richard Stockton College in June. There were about 200 students participating this year. All students were sponsored by Rotary Clubs from District 7505. Some of the focus areas this year were Fundamentals of Leadership, Ethics in Leadership, Impressions made through communications, Problem Solving, and Building self-confidence.
Sandy introduced Michael Hanrahan, one of our RYLA students this past June and Leah Sadler, a former RYLA Student, and current Program Manager of the Mentor 2.0 program for BBBS. The other 2 RYLA students we sent this year were unable to attend.
Before we heard from the presenters, Sandy asked Michael’s parents, the Hanrahans' to give a brief description about their son. Crystal told us Michael is a determined young man. Dave said Michael is diligent and highly focused.
Michael explained how most of the students were unsure about what to expect since the program was so different from prior years. Ice breaking and team building activities brought the students together.
The students learned how to improve their communication skills during a blind maze activity. Michael made new friends and remains in contact with other RYLA conferees. Michael is in the college application process and wants to major in Finance or Economics.
Leah attended RYLA in 2014. She was sponsored by the Bridgeton Rotary Club. She explained how nervous she was when she was interviewed to apply for RYLA. She was a 4-year member of the Bridgeton Interact Club and served as Club Secretary. She recalled one of the speakers from her time at RYLA encouraged the students to “think outside the box” when faced with new and difficult challenges.
She continues to communicate with her fellow RYLA conferees through social media. Leah went on to be a founding member of the Cumberland County College (now Rowan of SJ) Rotaract Club. She then completed her degree at Richard Stockton College.

President Harry adjourned the meeting and we followed with Dutch treat dinner and fellowship.
