Announcements
President Jay Einstein opened the meeting with a special visitor, Bud Verfaillie, past president of the Mullica Hill Rotary Club. Bud presented Joe O'Rourke with a well-deserved award for his exceptional volunteer efforts during the 2022 tornado that struck the area. In the aftermath of the disaster, Joe reached out to Bud, offering his help in a time of great need. He repeatedly showed up to lend a hand, dedicating countless hours to assist the community. Recognizing Joe's unwavering commitment, Bud nominated him for this honor. Though long overdue, Bud emphasized that the award was truly earned.
Congratulations, Joe—you're a shining example of the spirit of Rotary!
Sandy Hearing reminded everyone to get your Boscov's Shopping Passes! We only have 3 weeks left and we have not yet reached our goal! She wanted everyone to know they make a great gift and a great token of appreciation to hand out to your friends and family!
Diane Alcantara mentioned as you all know, many states have been devastated by Hurricane Helene, with Western North Carolina being one of the hardest hit. AMURTEL, a global relief organization, and AMURT, are partnering to help with relief work. Team members, who live in the areas around Asheville and Marshall N. Carolina, have started on the ground relief efforts. Rather than sending supplies to them, which may be difficult at this time considering bridge and road shut downs, we are fundraising to send money to our volunteers so they can evaluate and purchase what is most needed for those who have lost so much.
Donations to help with this effort can be made through the AMURTEL website: www.amurtel.org, which has Paypal. When sending please designate for Hurricane. Checks may also be sent to: AMURTEL, PO Box 232, Warren, VT 05674. Again, please designate for: Hurricane. Thank you!
Sherry Soutiere let everyone know that the blue cans on the tables will benefit Pedals for Progress for the month of October. September collections amounted to $438.00 donated to Compass Academy! Thank you to all who donated!
Save the date for our Special Needs holiday party on 12/4 at Rossi School. 9AM starts volunteers.
Jay introduced one of today's guests and prospective members, Susan Martinelli.
Ed Morvay announced that our club now has business cards! They were passed around. Please use these to spread the word about our club and invite friends to a lunch meeting! This worked well in the past and we are excited to reintroduce this back to the club! Ed also mentioned if everyone can please be punctual for meetings so we can start on time!
Jay thanked Cara Stanzione and Alicia Fichera for taking the lead on the newsletter.
Joe O'Rourke reminded everyone to save the dates- February 1st will be the Century of Service Gala event! We also have our Rotary Jingle Run which will be December 7th! Joe mentioned the theme is "denim and diamonds"! The Sensational Soul Cruisers will be performing at this event!
Carol Musso announced that after a meeting with Dave Hanrahan, Century Savings Bank has decided to be the sponsor of the Century of Service Gala event! Next year, Century Savings Bank will be celebrating their 160th Anniversary and it was only fitting. Thank you, Carol and Dave for the sponsorship!
