Our Program
Jay introduced our guest speaker, Naomi Ingraldi, Secretary of the Trustee Board of the Historical and Antiquarian Society. She spoke to us about the history of our club and presented copies of articles from the Society's archives featuring highlights of that history. Naomi told us that the Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society was formed in 1864, just three years after the founding of Vineland. After decades of expanding membership, the Society commissioned New Jersey’s first purpose-built historical society museum designed by Philadelphia architect George E. Savage. The two-story brick building with three-story stack room was completed in 1910. The Society has plans for a renovation project to update areas of the existing building and a 2000 square foot expansion. The Museum is overflowing with artifacts and memorabilia but there is much more that can be displayed if more room is provided. The Trustees would like to add displays that feature aspects of Vineland that current residents may remember and can relate to.
Donations are being accepted to help toward the $2 million project. Naomi was joined by Warren Crescenzo, Vice President of the Society, who also discussed the value of the rich history that is entrusted within the walls of the Museum.
You cannot appreciate the value of the Museum without taking the time to visit!
