President Andy Browne opened the meeting. Sue Sauro led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, Donna Bennett performed the Four Way Test and Jay Einstein led us in prayer. Linda Rumick was our notetaker. Thank you to Susanna Philippoussis who helped with photography and special thanks to Dawn Hunter, who was inadvertently not credited for being our notetaker last week. Andy shareda quote fromRotary International President Gordon MacInally: “ Our culture of Service Above Self builds community and promotes acts of kindness, two proven methods to build and maintain mental wellness."
Gordon is asking clubs and districts to expand on our culture of care by erasing the stigma associated with emotional well-being, raising awareness of mental health needs, and improving access to quality preventive care and interventions. Andy noted that last week we discussed some strategies for addressing the issue of loneliness. At that time, he encouraged members to try to spend some time with someone experiencing loneliness in an effort to ease that loneliness. Gail Marino, Dennis Palmer and Sue Sauro all shared insightful stories of interactions with people who are lonely. Then Andy encouraged us to take this week to tackle another emotional issue - sadness. Let's all do our part to follow RI President MacInally's initiative to improve emotional well-being - and this week help lift the spirits of someone experiencing sadness.
Our Program
Our guest speaker was fellow Rotarian Kevin Bernhardt (right) of Wainwright Bernhardt Funeral Home in Vineland. Kevin gave us an in-depth look into "End of Life Planning". So many details of a person's life need to be addressed at end of life, and it is important that as many of those details are determined in advance to ensure that the person's final wishes are carried out as they wish. Decisions regarding finances, choices regarding internment or cremation, etc. can all be pre-determined. Funeral professionals can help with those details in advance. Pre-planning can eliminate unneeded stress that can have a big impact on families. Thank you, Kevin for a thought provoking talk.
Happy Dollars!
Frank Rumick and Susanna Philippoussis collected HAPPY DOLLARS from 13 members who shared uplifting news that made them happy recently. The Happy Dollar collection netted almost $200!! Happiness is a powerful thing!
President Andy concluded the meeting with the following quotation - “A fundamental concern for others in our individual and community lives would go a long way in making the world the better place we so passionately dreamt of.” Nelson Mandela
Amurtel has reached out to thank us for our $200 donation for the children's home in Romania. Our contribution helped provide solar panels which will help ensure greater long-term sustainability both financially and ecologically. The home provides safe shelter and loving care to 12 children that are taken out of situations of abuse and neglect. The children are placed in the care of AMURTEL Family by the Child Protection Department of Buzau. Reducing the operating costs helps ensure the long term stability of the home as energy costs continue to rise.

Are you interested in supporting youth participation in Rotary?
We are looking for a Youth Services Director for the 2023-24 Rotary Year.
A message from our current Youth Services Director, Sandy Hearing:
As of June 2024 I will be stepping down as the Youth Service chairperson. Therefore, I am looking for someone to take over this position. It is not a difficult job and MOST of the work is completed through email, text or phone calls to faculty advisers for three Interact clubs and one Rotaract club that Vineland Rotary sponsors. I will work side by side with whoever chooses to take on this task during your first year. I would like to see a smooth transition take place before I leave this position so if you think this is a job you could consider, please email me at sandykh@comcast.net.
