Our guest speaker was Gerry Velazquez, President and CEO of The Authority of Cumberland County - also known as "The Authority". Gerry provided a broad view of the work and projects the organization is involved with. He joined The Authority 11 years ago, and the first major project he tackled was CCTEC. While The Authority is known for it's management of the county landfill, it also serves as a developer, similar to a company like Stanker and Galetto he noted. Projects managed and developed by The Authority in 2023 had an economic impact on the local region of $241 million! These projects included Millville Public Library, Bridgeton Fire House, Rowan Medicine Building at RCSJ, NJ State Police Barracks in Commercial Township, the Salem Courthouse and the Cape May Library.
The impact of The Authority stretches beyond
Cumberland County, but much of its work is centered in the county. The organization has provided facilities management for Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ), saving the college more than $1 million in expenses.
If you missed Gerry's visit, you missed a very insightful and fact-filled presentation. If you would like to learn more about The Authority, visit its website at:
